Update on Sukah & Virginia
Sukah had two follow up appointments, one for an anal gland infection we finally discovered last week and the other was his surgery follow up!! The good news is, his anal glands are looking better & his ACL is fully healed. However, he still has another month of limited activity as we wait for his Tibia bone to heal from surgery. A wedge of bone was removed from his Tibia to help realign his leg, so he has multiple screws and plates along it. It seems to be healing properly so far, but is not fully healed. You’d never know by watching him though... he’s ready to run & play!!
Poor little Virginia has had a few illnesses to get over since we picked her up. She has been in quarantine since we brought her home. She had gapeworm, which we were able to get rid of with one treatment, but also a full GI tract that required antibiotics and a fungal infection. She was congested sounding, a bit snotty and sneezy. We were able to cure the sneezing and the snotty nose, but she is still congested sounding and has continued to have a high white blood cell count, showing there is an infection somewhere, so we are continuing with tests, x-rays etc., until we can figure out what is wrong. It has been a bit of a mystery so far. On a happy note, her GI tract is looking good, her fecal is clear, she is bright eyed and happy while acting more like a duck! When we got her, she mostly would just stand & lay down. She has gained some weight, is eating good, and overall continuing to seem happier and healthier every day.
Though she seems to enjoy Pearl and the pigs company, her makeshift quarantine spot was only thought to be for a week or so…and each week or two we think it will be the moment we get to integrate her in with the other birds but, unfortunately we don’t know when that will be. So, Eric has begun building her her own proper duck house. He picked up fencing and a gate today, so tomorrow we will start building her yard and hopefully be able to move her into her own proper space until she can be in with the other birds.
We should receive the updated x-ray report on Tuesday and be able to plan our next steps from there. I am pretty excited about her new house and yard and having her in a more proper duck space for the meantime. The goodnight lullabies will continue in her new space… Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, still being her favorite. :)
Sukah and Virginia aren’t there quite yet, but we are confident they are on the road to recovery and will be there soon!
Thank you always for all your support and well wishes.
