As we say goodbye to 2021…
Happy New Years Eve!!!
As we say goodbye to 2021...
So many things to be grateful for, but in all, we won't be sad to see 2021 go. It ended up being a bit of a difficult year for us. We started the year by losing Chino. Not much time passed and we lost Morgan, followed by Yodi and Primo. All of them were unexpected and rather quick departures from this life. We are reminded of them each day. We experienced the Heat Dome, the looming wildfire, and we are now sending the year out with an Arctic air mass that has shifted South, leaving temperatures well below normal.
To balance that we were awarded our very first grant this year which gave us the opportunity to rebrand the organization and update our website, logo, materials and get some merch! We have welcomed eight new residents, including a new species of resident. We have expanded more into the community and continue to inspire and meet new people all of the time. We are so grateful for 11 new regular and amazing volunteers this year! And we were able to host a few events, despite Covid, and have regular visitors to the Sanctuary, including our first school group!
Bodhi has companions!
Bodhi has new lady friends!!! Peafowl naturally group in a "Party, Ostentation, Muster or Pride" and like most animals it is very important for them to have companionship. We were lucky enough to bring in two ladies, that were in need of a new home. Their former home had been sold & the new owners did not want them on the property. The ladies are very sweet, timid, and shy. But, they are also brave, inquisitive, mysterious, beautiful, and graceful.
They are quite bonded and seem to be getting more bonded with Bodhi each day. He seems so happy to have companions.
The big talk around here for a few weeks was who was going to be coming home to live with Bodhi! So, when the peahens arrived we decided we’d let all of our awesome young volunteers have a chance at giving them their names. Each young volunteer (16 & under) entered a name for each hen into a box and our Board Members chose from the list of names for their final…. Hermione and Delilah. Which was quite fitting b/c James & Olivia (who submitted the names) were also two of Bodhi’s biggest admirers. They chose Delilah to be the girl with white under her wing and Hermione is the all brown lady. (This is the only way we can tell them apart)
